Delete Your Account

Last updated: August 2026

This page explains how to delete your Tandem account, what we remove when you do, and what stays behind. It applies to the Tandem Uni App on iOS and Android. Tandem Uni App Ltd is responsible for the personal data described here. For the full picture of how we handle personal data, read our Privacy Policy.

1. Delete your account in the app

This is the quickest way and it takes effect immediately.

  1. Open Tandem and sign in.
  2. Tap your profile picture in the top corner of the Home, Events or Offers tab.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the Settings screen and tap Delete Account.
  4. Confirm when you are asked.

Your account is deleted straight away and you are signed out. There is no waiting period, no grace period, and no way to undo it. If you want to use Tandem again afterwards you will need to sign up from scratch with a fresh account.

2. Ask us to delete your account by email

If you have already removed the app, or you cannot sign in, you do not need to reinstall anything. Email contact@tandemuniapp.com from the address you registered with, tell us you want your account deleted, and name the university you signed up under if you can. We will confirm once it is done, and in any event within 30 days of your request.

If you have to email us from a different address, we may ask you for something that shows the account belongs to you. That is there to stop anyone else deleting your account.

3. Delete some of your data without closing your account

You do not have to delete your whole account to have data removed. You can ask us to delete specific personal data and keep using Tandem. To do that, follow these steps.

  1. Email contact@tandemuniapp.com from the address you registered with.
  2. Write "Delete my data" in the subject line so we spot it quickly.
  3. Tell us which data you want removed, for example your profile photo, your interests, your event RSVPs, a report you submitted, or feedback you sent us.
  4. Send it. Your account stays open and you stay signed in.

We will confirm once it is done, and in any event within 30 days of your request. Some things we cannot remove on request, and we will tell you which and why at the time. Data we are required to keep for legal, accounting or fraud prevention reasons stays for as long as the law requires, and the items listed in section 5 below are not held against your profile so they are not removed this way. You can also change most of your details yourself in the app at any time without emailing us.

4. What we delete

When your account is deleted we remove the following.

  • Your account and sign-in details, including your name and email address
  • The events you marked yourself as going to
  • The offers you saved or redeemed
  • Your interests and the categories you chose
  • Your notifications and your notification settings
  • Any reports you submitted through the app

If you were set up as an admin for a society, that link is removed as part of the same step. The society itself is not affected and carries on without you attached to it.

5. What we keep, and why

A few things are not held against your profile, so they do not disappear when the profile does.

  • Content posted into a society feed, along with announcements and any feedback you sent us, stays on the platform. It is no longer linked to a profile once your account is gone.
  • Copies of images you uploaded, including your profile picture, may remain in our storage and in our routine backups after your account is removed.
  • The records that linked you to the societies and sports clubs you followed or joined remain in our systems. Once your account is gone they no longer identify you or show your name anywhere, but they do still count towards a society's total member number.
  • If you took part in our referral scheme, the record of that referral remains so the societies and unions involved keep an accurate count.
  • Where we are required to keep a record for legal, accounting or fraud prevention reasons, we keep only what the law requires and nothing further.

6. Deleting the app is not the same as deleting your account

Removing Tandem from your phone signs you out of that device. It does not delete your account or the data attached to it. To delete the account itself, use either of the two routes above.

7. Questions

If anything here is unclear, or you want to know what we hold about you before you decide, email contact@tandemuniapp.com and we will answer. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk if you are unhappy with how we have handled your data.
